Do you want to die? Do you want to live? Have you thought about your life, what you will wear, what you will watch, or what you will eat?  Langer dives in deep discussing how being mindful actually helps your life (I know, I know, that blows your mind). She talks of how learned helplessness shortens life in nursing homes.  How just being able to dress oneself or pick what movie to watch does amazing things for the psyche.  She also discusses how when an addict admits they are an addict it is easier for them to follow through with treatment.  And while in treatment  if they know they can’t get meds to help them sometimes the withdraw symptoms are much less, where if they know they can get their hands on some meds the symptoms rear their ugly heads.

This book is a nice short conversation starter.  Certain things that were discussed were really interesting, and some of the things you probably already knew but may not have really thought about.
